The mountain men traveled west for the huge amounts of furs and fish in Oregon. they had no maps or trails to follow as they were the ones making them as they went. they brought disease, firearms and alcohol to the Plains Indians' culture.

The Mormons were persecuted wherever they went so they made the decision to move west. the Mormons and the Plains Indians got on well due to their similar beliefs such as polygamy.
