What is the role of Reverse Transcriptase
Forms single stranded complementary DNA from mRNA
1 of 8
What does DNA polymerase do
It causes nucleotides to join together as a strand
2 of 8
What do restriction endonucleases do
Cut double stranded DNA at a specific recognition sequences
3 of 8
State the 3 stages of the polymerase chain reaction including temperature and what occurs at each stage
95 degrees- so that the the two strands in DNA seperate, 55 degrees- to allow primers to join to the complementary bases, 72 degrees so that DNA polymerase can join the strands together
4 of 8
What does DNA ligase do
Joins up the phosphate-sugar framework of the two sections of DNA
5 of 8
What is the purpose of a gene marker
Allows us to identify host cells which have successfully taken up the correct gene
6 of 8
What is a vector
Something that carries DNA into cells for replication e.g. a plasmid
7 of 8
What is transformation
Delivering a gene into a living cell
8 of 8
