What is the first stage of digestion, and what does it do?
The Mouth. In the now the food is crushed by the teeth and mixed with saliva.The saliva contains amylase enzymes and breaks down starch in the food.

The oesophagus. Peristalsis is what moves the food from the mouth to the stomach.
