Democracy
A general description of various political systems that are organised on the basis that governments should serve the interests of the people. It is expected in liberal democracies that citizens should influence decisions or make decisions themselves.

Legitimacy
This term refers to the characteristic of some institutions that give them the right to exercise power. This can be claimed whey an institution is accountable and/or elected.

Citizenship
Refers to the idea that members of the political community have certain rights with respect to political institutions. It also implies that an individual has the right to live within a particular state and thus also enjoy and it's rights and benefits

Opportunities for and tendencies of the people to become involved in the political process. At a minimum level this involves voting, at the highest level in implies standing for office.

A popular vote where the people are asked to determine an important political constitutional issue directly.

The political idea that people elect or appoint representatives to make decisions on their behalf.It also implies that political institutions should have a membership hat is broadly a social cross-section of society in general.

A term used to describe a fear that democracy is being undermined or weakened in a variety of ways.
