compaction vs compression
compaction- partciles cohere to a solid with defined geometry. requires compression. compression- particles forced into close proximity, may not nesacarlly result in compaction
1 of 7
what is compaction cycle
dies filled, compression via punches, ejection
2 of 7
what is elastic recovery
after compression. low cohesion and no compaction. particle deformation disapears and orignial state recovered
3 of 7
what is plastic deformation
after compression, high cohesion and compaction, deformation remains
4 of 7
describe the four particle properties
- amorphous mores compactable than crystaline. morphology- needle like less compactable than equidimensional plasicity- deformation increases contact area so prevents elastic recovery. hydrates- more compactable than anhydrous
5 of 7
heckle equation use
links porosity and pressure and can plot a linear graph from it
6 of 7
what is tensile strength and what is it effected by
measures interparticular bonds, higher means more resistant to crushing. effected by diameter, thickness and compression force
