Truman fails to get congressional approval of the FECP - 1945-6
The Fair Employment Practises Commission (FECP) had been set up under Roosevelt to promote equality in the defence industry, in which 2 million African-Americans were employed. Truman failed to get approval to continue this.

The NAACP organised an economic boycott in New Orleans, in which activists picketed stores that would not allow black women to try on hats.

Mississippi Progressive Voters' League - 1947
Black activism continued in Mississippi, including the formation of the League, which attracted 5000 members within the year of its formation.

'Journey of Reconciliation' - 1947
In response to the Morgan v. Virginia ruling, CORE activists rode buses across the south as an integrated group to test whether the ruling was being followed.

Truman's executive orders - 1948
Truman gave executive orders to end discrimination within the armed forces, and guarantee fair employment in the federal bureaucracy

'Secure these Rights' requests - 1949
Included anti-lynching legislation, abolition of the poll tax, voting rights laws, a permanent FECP, end to discrimination in interstate travel and the armed forces, a civil rights division in the Justice department, etc

Supreme Court ruled that segregation on railroad dining cars was illegal

Supreme Court ruled that a black student could not be physically separated from white students in the University of Oklahoma

NAACP victory: Sweatt v. Painter - 1950
Supreme Court ruled that a separate black Texan Law school was not equal to the all-white Texan Law school which had been petitioned
