What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water (+ light energy) → glucose + oxygen
1 of 15
What does a plant need for photosynthesis to occur?
Carbon Dioxide, Water and Light.
2 of 15
Describe the factors that limit the rate of photosynthesis
Not having enough light, the concentration of carbon dioxide, if it gets too cold the rate of photosynthesis will decrease and plants cannot photosynthesise if it gets too hot.
3 of 15
What is the word equation for respiration?
Oxygen + glucose (energy) - water + carbon dioxide
4 of 15
What is respiration?
Respiration is inhaling and exhaling
5 of 15
What is photosynthesis?
The process in which plants make thier own food.
6 of 15
How do enzymes act as catalysts?
They act as catalysts because they speed up chemicla reactions.
7 of 15
Why are enzymes specific to one type of substrate?
Because the active site of the enzyme will only fit one type of substrate.
8 of 15
What does the word denaturing mean? When does it happen?
Denature means the enzyme becomes useless. It happens at high temps the protein changes and the substrate wont fit in the active site and the reaction does not happen.
9 of 15
Why do enzymes have an opitum pH and temperature?
Because each enzyme is most effective at a specific temp and pH. Outside of this the reactivity of the enzyme begins to decrease.
10 of 15
Describe the effect of changing pH on the rate of an enzyme
Changing the pH of an enzyme will decrease its rate because an enzyme is effective at a specific pH.
11 of 15
Describe the effect of changing temperature on the rate of an enzyme
It will decrease th rate of an enzyme because an enzyme is most effective at a specific temperature.
12 of 15
What is the symbol equation for respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O (+ energy)
13 of 15
What is the symbol equation for photosynthsis?
6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2
14 of 15
Describe the role of respiration on living things
The role of respiration on living things is important because animals need it to breathe and plants need it to survive and inhale and exhale.
