What does insulin do?
It controls blood sugar levels

Because the simple sugars in processed food are digested and absorbed in your blood really quickly

The pancreas releases insulin which causes sugar to be removed from the blood

This is when blood sugar levels can’t be controlled properly

What happens when you have type 1 diabetes?
The pancreas stops producing insulin which means that your blood sugar levels can rise to a dangerous level.

What increases the risk of having type 2 diabetes?
Having a poor diet or being obese

What happens when you have type 2 diabetes?
The body no longer responds to its own insulin or it doesn’t make enough insulin. This can cause your blood sugar levels to rise to a dangerous level.

How can type 1 diabetes be controlled?
By injecting insulin into the blood at mealtimes. However, needs to be right amount of insulin to make sure the body doesn’t remove too much sugar.

By exercising and eating a carefully controlled diet.
