The nucleus contains chromosomes, and chromosomes carry the genes that control the characteristics of your body.

What do genes control? How do they do this?
Genes control the development of characteristics. They do this by controlling all the different enzymes and other proteins made in your body.

What are chromosomes made up of?
Chromosomes are made up of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) which is where the genetic information is stored.

What is DNA?
DNA is a long molecule made up of two strands that are twisted together to make a spiral. This is known as a double helix.
