Augustine's Theodicy

?
1. God created the world perfect
Genesis 1:31. Ex Nihilo. So God has responsibility for all creation.
1 of 6
2, Evil is a privation of good
Privation = Privatio Boni (a corruption, flaw, error) Doesn't deny its existence. e.g. Darkness is just a privation of sight. Blindness is a privation of sight.
2 of 6
3. The Fall
Genesis 3. Caused by the abuse of free will, an infinitely bad sin needs an infinitely bad punishment. Humanity's fault. Disobeyed God. The punishment fit the crime as the severity of a sin depends on who is being sinned against (this case God)
3 of 6
4. Original Sin
Passed down to all humanity. Humans were seminally present in Adam's loins. All people are predestined to sin.
4 of 6
5. Benevolent God/Justified
Punishment fit the crime? Justice demands punishment - Christ is the redemption, the escape ladder to Heaven + Hell. A world with free will is more perfect than a world without free will.
5 of 6
6. Predestination
Each person is predestined to heaven and hell. An omniscient God knew about the fall, on a balance it must have been worth it.
