What are the 'medical' causes of asthma?
Family history of asthma OR any atopic disease (eg allergy) OR developing another Atopic disease, A low birth rate (less that 1KG or 4.5lb), born premature & needing ventilator, painkillers, having bronchiolitis (common lung infection) as a child

What are the symptoms of Asthma?
Breathlessness, Tight-chest (gradually getting tighter), increased wheeziness, coughing, gasping for breath, inhaler isn't helping as usually would

How long does it take for an asthma attack to develop?
Attacks are usually caused by exercise and between 6 and 48 hours to develop fully

What happens when someone is developing an asthma attack?
The bands of muscles around the air ways tighten and have increased inflammation causing the airways to swell, the airways then produce a stick phlegm/mucus narrowing them further, there is also a drop in the exparitry flow

What is the treatment for someone with asthma?
A written personal action plan (usually written by a doctor or nurse) and GP or pharmacist teaches you how to correctly use the inhaler

If you have Asthma what care do you receive from the GP?
Involvement in making decisions about the condition, regular checks (minimum once a year) and full information on how to control the condition
