Relative atomic mass
The weighted mean mass of an atom of an element when compared with 1/12 of the mass of carbon 12.
1 of 10
Ionisation energy
The amount of energy required to remove one electron from every atom in one mole of gaseous atoms to form one mole of gaseous 1+ ions.
2 of 10
Electronegativity
A measure of the ability of an atom to attract the bonded electrons in a covalent bond.
3 of 10
Covalent bond
A bond formed by a shared pair of electrons
4 of 10
Ionic bond
The electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions.
5 of 10
Metallic bonding
The electrostatic attraction between a 'sea' of delocalised electrons and positive metal ions..
6 of 10
Periodicity
A repeating pattern (or trends) across different periods.
7 of 10
Hydrogen Bond
Intermolecular force between a lone pair of electrons on an N, O or F atom in one molecule and a hydogen atom in another molecule containg F, N or O.
8 of 10
Permanent dipole-dipoe force
An attractive force that exists between polar molecules
