Adenauer was nominated to become the president but a few weeks later he withdrew his nomination for personal reasons/ interests

What was the Strauss' strategy?

Strauss believed that ' massive deference' was needed to fight the threat of communism and he also seemed that he was in favour of a pre-emptive nuclear strike by NATO in case of danger

Very badly. He was never prepared to accept any personal responsibility or blame for the affair . The scandal showed that he was lacking political judgement and showing arrogance.
