What is Data?
Raw facts or figures.

What is Information?
Data that has been processed to give it meaning.

What is Knowledge?
Information when a set of rules has been applied to it.

What is meant by GIGO?
Garbage In, Garbage Out. If something wrong is input into a c computer, then something wrong will be output.

What are Validation checks used for?
To ensure that only sensible data is entered into a computer.

What does Range Check do?
Checks that numbers are between a certain range.

What does Format Check do?
Makes sure that the correct mix of letters and numbers is entered.

What does Presence Check do?
Checks that a field is not empty.

What does Check Digit do?
An extra number is added to the end of a longer set of numbers.

When do Transcription errors occur?
When copying data to a computer.

When do Transposition errors occur?
When characters are accidentally swapped around (Pressing Q instead of W)

How can we minimise Transcription/Transposition errors?
Visually Checking (Proofreading) or Double-Keying (Entering data twice and checking that they are the same)

What makes good quality data?
The accuracy of the data, it must be fit for purpose and it should not be biased.
