Evidence suggesting Prohibition had a positive effect:
- deaths from alcoholism had fallen by 80% by 1921
- male deaths from cirrhosis of the liver fell from 29.5 per 100,000 in 1911 to 10.7 per 100,000 in 1929
- reduced number of people killed on the roads and the incidence of drink-related accidents at work was diminished
