Violent tactics of the suffragettes

  • disruption of meetings
    • suffragettes would sit in at Liberal meetings and disrupt them, standing up or shouting. This sometimes led to arrests and eventually all women were banned from Liberal meetings.
  • chained themselves to railings
  • shouting suffragette slogans at Westminster
  • attacking - sometimes burning - the houses of leading politicians
    • in 1913
