During exercise, yur heart rate and stroe volume increase so more blood is circulating your body every minute. Your working muscles need more oxygen and so blood (which has oxygen attached to the red blood cells) is diverted (shunted) away from inactive areas towards active muscles. This is called vascualr shunting.
