The diktat

Most Germans assumed that Germany would be able to negotiate the terms of the peace treaty, but the Allies refused to allow any German representatives to join in the treaty discussion. The treaty was a "diktat" meaning the terms were imposed, not agreed. Germany had 15 days to make comments. The Germans asked foe concessions, but they were refused. They did not have any say. They had no position to negotiate.

The terms of the Treaty of Versailles

Germany had to pay reputations to the Allies. In 1921, reaparations were eventually fixed at 136, 000 million marks (6.6 billion). This weakens the economy.

Germany lost all its colonies in Africa and the Far East were given to victorious countries as "mandates" territories to look after (empires lost) England and French takes the colonies. And if they let a country have their independence, then all of the colonies would want to rule for themselves.
