Lexis
Lexis means words
Lexis is the really fancy way of saying vocabulary it can be looked at in phrases known as lexical phrases. Lexis is influenced by vocabulary and is one of the reasons we have loads of synonyms.
Words are often borrowed from another language however some are new words.
Lexis has different levels of formality. Informal lexis is more relaxed, colloquial and non-standard (slang and dialect), smaller and monosyllabic, abbreviate and has old English roots. Formal lexis is more serious, impersonal, tends to be use more standard English, complex and has Latin roots.
