The two process model:
Hobart Mower created a two-process model (1960) which explains that phobias are learned in the first place byb classical conditioning and maintained by operant conditioning
Learning by classical conditioning:
Involves associating something which we dont have any fear of with something that already triggers a fear response
- e.g. Watson and Rayner (1920): associated a loud noise (UCS) with a rabbit (NS) to make the little Albert be fearful (CR) of the rabbit (now the CS)
