society in the 70s

the 1970s saw progression in second wave feminism which had developed in the 60s with the more liberalising and permissive society that was developed under labour. women's liberation groups began appearing- organising demonstrations and disrupting the miss world contest in 1970. they mainly protested about equal pay and free nurseries. 

the sex discrimination act came around in 1975, which was passed in an attempt to end all discrimination within the workplace based on gender or marital status.

women's economic situation did start to improve at the beginning of the 1970s, they could take our mortgages in their own name, there was the equal pay act of 1970 which came into force in 1975 and there were increases to women's pensions. however, there were still inequalties. trade unions remained…
