To what extent are religious teachings about sex out of date?

As new values of modern western society have emerged, a new issue has become apparent; are the values a long way from those of religion? or does this suggest that the new modern way of thinking is more relatable to this new age?

Religion, for the most part, seems to suggest that sex before marriage is wrong, that many particular kinds of sexual acts are wrong if they are not directly related to reproduction stemming from the Natural Law approach. Religion also suggests that gay and lesbian relationships are wrong and not part of God's plan. However Modern liberal western society seems to challenge each of these things with a basic idea that as long as people consent to what is going on, and no-one else is harmed, they are fine.
