Sedimentary Processes

• occur at surface of lithosphere 
• a rock already exists broken down by weathering into rock particles and dissolved minerals in solution 
• these are carried away, separted and may be redeposited elsewhere as rocks with quite different compositions and properties

Alluvial/placer deposits

• 
  carried by flowing water but deposited when water slows down
• different minerals deposited in different parts of the river, with densest ones settling out first
