Opportunity Samples

  • this is a sample for the people who are most available


  • Quick method
  • It is convenient as it makes use of the people who are the closest


  • inevitably biased
  • the sample is unrepresentative of the target population as it is drawn from a very specific area
  • this means; the findings cannot be generalised

Volunteer Samples:

  • Self - selecting participants as the participants select themselves


  • participants are willing
  • participants know how much time and effort is involved
  • participants likely to engage more


  • likely to be a biased sample
  • participants may share certain traits
