Limestone and its uses
limestone has many uses eg calcium oxide and cement
concrete is made with sand, aggregate and water
limstone is mainly calcium carbonate, CaCO3
when heated calcium carbonate decomposes to make calcium oxide and carbon dioxide, equation: calcium carobonate - calcium oxide + carbon dioxide
this is called thermal decompostion
Reaction of carbonates
metal carbonates all react in a similar way when heated or when reacted with acids
metal carbonates decompose to the metal oxide and carbon dioxide when heated
all carbonates react with acids to produce salt, water and carbon dioxide gas
calcium hydorxide is called limewater, it…
