Psychological Therapies for OCD: Psychoanalysis

This type of therapy aims to treat mental illness by discovering repressed memories and providing a patient with insight into their disorder. With regards to OCD, these repressed memories would relate to parent-child conflicts with regards to personal hygiene. 

One method is free association where the client is encouraged to speak about anything that pops into their head. Resistance exhibited by the patient suggests that a client is getting closer to a repressed idea.
