Invisible Primaries- these start a year or so before the actual elections, it is where a potential candidate announces his candidacy for the presidency. this period is usually where the potential candidate will raise funds and awareness about their campaign. in 2007, Obama started the invisible primaries by releasing a book.

in these invisible primaries, the potential candidates might visit key states, such as New Hampshire and Iowa. (they are sometimes referred to as the key states as they are the first states to have an official primary/caucus).
