Political Participation covers all forms of political activities. These inlcude qeiting letters to your local MP, canvassing for a party or protesting. Electoral turnout is the amount of people who turn out to vote on polling day for British election. I agree that Political Participation cannot simply be measured just as electoral turnout.

One major factor as to why is the fact many people will just vote on the day and become apathetic in politics until the next election. This is especially the case with the older generation, where a lot of people will not have the ability or willingness to get involved in politics bar from voting. This clearlly indicates that they are not getting involved in politics.
