Aim: To investigate the effect of several variables on helping behaviour.

Sample: Approx 4500 on New York underground betwwen 11am and 3pm, 45% black, 55% white.

Method: Observational Field Experiment

Procedure: 4 researchers - 2 male, 2 female. For each trial one male was the victim and the other was a model. The females were observers. 4 different conditions - 1. white male with cane, 2. black male with cane, 3. white drunk male, 4. black drunk male. The victims wore the same outfit.
