Field experiments


  • less chance of demand characteristics if the participants are unaware of being part of a study
  • very high ecological validity


  • less control than lab
  • harder to replicate
  • ethical issues


e.g. Piliavin had high levels of ecological validity as real passengers were used as participants but had many ethical issues as no participant gave consent, had the right to withdraw and were heavily deceived.
