Cyclotron

The following explanation is based on a proton being accelerated around a cyclotron.

A proton is emitted from a source at the centre of the cyclotron. It is attracted to the negative 'Dee'. The magnetic field curves its path. When the proton curves round and reaches the gap, the polarity of the Dees is changed by an alternating supply. It is therefore accelerated as it is repelled from the first Dee and attracted…
