Oxidising Alcohols

  • Alcohols contain the functional group -OH, the hydroxyl group 
  • Alcohols are names after the number of carbons they contain and thier names end in -ol
  • Alcohols with more than two carbon atoms can have positional isomers
  • Alcohols are classified into primary, secondary and tertiary
  • These are classified by looking at the carbon atom the hydroxyl group is bonded with, and seeing how many carbons it's directly attached to.
  • A primary alchohol will have the the carbon atom with the hydroxyl
