Any research that involves watching a particular tupe of behaviour and recording what you see.

Two ways of observing behaviour
Naturalistic observation - When the researcher does not deliberately manipulate the variables and behaviour is recorded in it's natural setting.
Advantage - High in ecological validity.
Disadvantage - Lack of control.

Controlled observation - When the researcher deliberately sets up a situation and observes the resulting behaviours.
Advantage - Good contol
Disadvantage - Your construction may not be realistic of real life.
