they are the ones that you use in college they rely on light to magnify an image . it has 2 lenses an objective lens and an eyepiece , the total magnification is the magnification of both of these lenses times together.They magnify up to X 2000, how ever the resolution of these microscopes is not great and this is due to the wavelength of light being bigger than the resolution of the microscope.
