MARETISATION - the attempt to improve education by making schools/colleges COMPETE FOR EDUCATION in an 'educational market'. It brought in 3 things:
1) A FUNDING FORMULA - gives chools the same amount of funds for each pupil (more pupils=more money)
2) EXAM LEAGUE TABLES - rank each school according to its exam performance
3) COMPETITION - to attract parents & pupils
Schools are under ressure of achieving a GOOD LEAGUE TABLE POSITION because they need to attract more pupils & (consequently) funding. They need to impress OFSTED for this.
