Is knowledge justified, true belief?

Introduction:

In Theatetus Plato first gives the definition of knowledge as a justified, true belief. The Tripartite definition of knowledge claims that knowledge can be defined as a justified, true belief and that these three conditions are jointly sufficient unto each other and individually necessary. Just as unmarried and man provides necessary and sufficient conditions for bachelor.

Paragraph 1: The gap that exists between the truth and justification condition means that cases of lucky knowledge are inevitable, proving that the conditions aren't jointly sufficient.

  • The first case consists of smith forming the belief that the man that will get the job has 10 coins in his pocket. This only turns out to be luckily still and under the JTB definition would be classed as knowledge.
