MAINSTREAM VS INDEPENDENT FILMS:

• MAINSTREAM = films are funded by large Hollywood studies, e.g Universal, Disney and Sony
• INDEPENDENT = films are funded through other sources

SOCIAL REALISM - social realism films draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working class and the poor - social realists are critical of the social structures which maintain these conditions.

AUSTERITY - huge cuts were met to all government departments, including welfare, education and health, in order to save the banks following the 2008 Banking Crisis.
