I don't think Bess purchased Hardwick Hall in 1583 because it wasn't built and the land was already hers due to growing up in Hardwick Old Hall. Also, it was Built between 1590 and 1597 and the common phrase about the windows was 'Hardwick Hall more glass than wall'.
