Management of the Church

H was a devout  Roman Catholic who recognised the Pope as spirtual leader of the Christian church- Potential tension between such securlar and spirtitual leaders as monarchs and religious figureheads had resulted in great arguments even bloodshed, between previous kings and popes.
By late 15th century a modus vivendi had been established (king ran church in Eng, and church was loyal to the king)

Church appointments

H was able to use the church to reinforce his royal power after 1485- he kepts a tight control over church appointments, selecting loyal, well educated churchmen to important state and episcopal posts
Church also strengthened royal control across realm through its administrative structure in whic archbishops, and bishops
