FALSE TWIST;

  • this uses the thermoplastic quality of fibre
  • yarn is made by tightly twisting heat setting then untwisting
  • results in permanent crinkles and snarls
  • used for hoisery, swimwear, knitted outwear

BULKED/CONTINUOUS;

  • uses thermoplastic quality, usually nylon etc
  • nylon yarn is forced forward by a jet of hot fluid against a cold surface causing the development of zig-zag appearance
  • yarn becomes thicker and softer

KNIT DE KNIT;

  • a crimpled yarn is made by knitting yarn into fabric, heat setting then unravelling
