Vesalius was very significant in the development of medicine in the Renaissance period in the short term during his own lifetime. For example, he challenged religion by carrying out dissections himself and encouraging medical students to learn from them. Vesalius also challenged Galen's ideas. His challenge of Galen's ideas also went against the church showing immense bravery and a strong desire to learn and help others. Roger Bacon had been arrested for saying that doctors should carry out their own research by the church.
