GCSE results over the last 10 years show the following trends. People from a Chinese background are very acdemically successful with 70% and more pupils with a pass rates of 5 or more GCSE's. Afro-Caribbean pupils seemed to least well with only approximately 30% of pupils gaining the 5 A-C's. However very recently it is thought that the lowest achievers are White working class boys withn only 15% of these gaining 5 A-C's including maths and english
Sewell says the culture of the street is anti-educational. This culture puts style and instant gratification first. (actions that get you immediate pleasure) They see educational success as feminine and failing at school as something to be proud of ( a badge to wear).
