Various enzymes are used in digestion- theyre produced by specialised cells and then released into the gut

Digestive Enzymes Break Down Big Molecuesl into Smaller Ones

  • Starch, proteins and fats are BIG molecules. They're too big to pass through the walls of the digestive system. They're also insoluble
  • Sugars, amino acids, glycerol and fatty acids are much smaller moelcues. They're soluble and can pass easily through the walls of the digestive system
  • The digestive enzymes break down the BIG molecules into the smaller ones
