Enzymes

Enzymes are biological catalysts that lower the activation energy required for a reaction to take place. The shape of their active site is complimentary to the substrate upon which they act and this is referred to as the lock and key model. The Enzyme binds to the substrate and they form an enzyme substrate complex. The substrate then splits into the products leaving the active site and another substrate molecule
