Psychological explanations

Psychological positivism- explanations that focuson the personality, psychological makeup and learning processes of individuals.

Psychodynamic theory- Freud. Id, Ego and Superego. Harsh/deviant/weak superego's are the main sources of crime.

3 claims of the psychodynamic theories:

> socialisation depends on the internalisation of society's rules during childhood

> impaired parent-infant relationships are causally related to later criminal behaviour

> unconscious conflicts arise from disturbed family relationships at different stages of development- esp. Odipal stage-
