• Social networking sites have enabled greater access to virtual relationships, with individuals being able to seek and find other people who they share things in common with
• Online dating also allows sexual minorities to find potential partners and other individuals to exploreand experiment with aspects of their sexuality which they may be unlikely to do in face-to-face relationships
• Virtual relationships are believed to produce a greater level of intimacy between inividuals, which may be due to a greater level of self disclosure in a shorter period of time 
• Self disclosure is often greater in virtual relationships due to the anonymity and less fear of personal information being leaked to the indviduals social circle
