DEATH!

 The death rate has fallen because we have an ageing population. This is because:

• Tranter - death rate has fallen because fewer people die from infectious diseases e.g. smallpox
• Improved nutrition
• Medical improvments
• "As late as the 1930s, levels of obstetric knowledge and technique were so poor that they were more likely to increase rather decrease death rates in chilbirth."
• Introduction of antibiotics, widespread immunisation, blood transfusions, higher standards of midwifery…
