Improved nutrition, medical improvements, improvements in environmental & public health measures and other social changes.
9 of 15
Why has improved nutrition caused the death rate to fall?
Better nutrition improves the immune system meaning people are less likely to contract infections and survival chances are greater if they do.

Since 1950s, advances in medicine like vaccinations, antibiotics and blood transfusions have helped death rate drop. More recently, better medication and procedures like by-pass heart surgery+other developments have cut death rate by 1/3.
12 of 15
How have public health measures and environmental improvements caused the death rate to fall?
20th century = more effective government = improved public health & environment - improved housing (less damp/overcrowded/better ventilation), improved sewage, pasteurised milk and introduced Clean Air Act (1956-1964).
