The Cognitive Approach to Psychopathology
The Cognitive approach assumes that people's thoughts direct their emotions and behaviour. Mental disorders result from ittational and negative cognitions. Links to generalisation.
1) SELF -> WORLD -> FUTURE
A person believes she/he is worthless and this leads to feelings of depression in the future.(Bias)
2) Automatic Errors:
A "SCHEMA" is an information store of previous knowledge and experience". A child will change their schema to adapt to events and experiences. As a person, we can reach an equilibrium to make us happy - if what we see matches what we know…
