1.1 Chemical Bonding

Elements react to form compounds by gaining,losing or sharing electrons. To become stable the compound must have 2 or 8 electrons on it's outer shell. When a metal reacts with a non-metal it is ionic bonding, the metal loses electrons to form positive ions whilst the non-metals gain the electrons to make negative ions. When a non-metal reacts with another non-metal is is covalent bonding.

1.2 Ionic Bonding

Ionic bonding is when a metal reacts with a no-metal. Ionic compounds are held together by forces between oppositley charged ions(Ionic Bonding). The ions form a giant
